I haven't been there, but a month should be plenty of time for greens to fully recover. Usually it's about two weeks, maybe three.

It's been a while since my last pizza update, and the pizza scene has changed dramatically on the Grand Strand over the last few years. This is a list of my favorite pizza joints in each region. If you have a favorite not on the list let me know as I may not have tried it yet (I know there are a couple in Surfside I need to sample). FYI, this is only a ranking of NY style pizza places or similar. Lovers of Mellow Mushroom, Howie's Hungry Pizza or gourmet-style pizzas look elsewhere, LOL.

Did something happen to Surf Club's greens or wear out from age?

Surf Club will also be closing from Memorial Day to Labor Day in 2027 for renovation of greens and bunkers.

@artmbgolf i agree. 16 one of my least favorite holes on GS. I liken it to MBN southcreek #7. short par 4 dogleg right with about a 20yd landing area where you will actually have a clear shot to the green. too short of dogleg and blocked out buy tall pines trees. too long and can go through the fairway of the dogleg. just silly. :)

Glen Dornoch probably could use some tree trimming/removal to open up
to sun. The challenge might make it less popular than easier courses.
It used to be known for slow greens, but they finally got new greens around
6 years ago.

#16 is brutal with the forced layup, then a long 2nd shot to what might be the
smallest green on the course. That green size and shape is not much of a
target and it has hazards around it.

Hadn't played this track in some 20 years so other than it having aesthetically/visually pleasing holes on the inter-coastal waterway(which i have seen from various boating excursions on waterway) i had no remembrance of it. Had a Tuesday,9/22, 854am tee time and there was no one on the course. we(wife)were first tee time. MB passport rate was $56. Nice driving range and good putting green. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. Couple holes that were heavily shaded fairways were a little bare but not too bad. Greens were nice. again couple had some bare spots but confined mostly to the cut line between green and fringe. This is a tough course for a high handicap (17). I played the white tees and my best tee ball goes 235yds while average is 220yds. It is target golf on a LOT of holes. there are 7-8 holes where fairways are cut off by hazard and the hazards are all at least 20yds deep or longer. so if not in right spot/distance off tee you might not be able to carry your 2nd shot over the hazard. Only one of these holes,16, forced a lesser club off the tee as hazard was to close for me to hit driver. Of course as hole is 370 yds this meant my 200yd tee ball still left 180yds to back pin with hazard all up the right side of fairway from 100 yds in to green.

There are also a few holes 300yds or less(from whites) so takes driver out of hand. Tree lined fairways that are narrow on short holes, more wide open on longer holes. If you like to get up there and bomb your driver 14 times i would advise this is not the course for you.

Also, if you are playing the reds and can't hit your driver at least 150yds i would say you will be very frustrated by those 7-8 holes mentioned earlier as you will likely have a short layup before the hazard for your second shot before going over on your third shot. It really took its toll on my wife who hits it 130yds off tee and was exasperated by the end of the round with the forced layups.

played all by ourselves at our own pace only catching up to the DT group that went off 10 on the 16th hole. finished in 3hr 45min. would have been 3 1/2 if not for waiting on last 3 holes.

when we finished parking lot was still not even 1/2 full. Not sure if it is layout or location(little river)but this is in season for golf and i play up and down the GS and have not seen a course with these good conditions and low price point be so empty.

If you are low handicapper and can play Blue or Black tees it is well conditioned course at great pricing.

ps nice deck overlooking the 18th and 9th greens(double green) and the inter-coastal waterway for a drink/snack post round.

yes it has been aerated week before. Not unexpected if that is what they normally do. Just have some guys coming down and that is one of their favorites but don’t want to go if greens haven’t recovered. Thanks
