First time going to Oak Island - it's a haul if you're starting in MB, but worth it. Designed by George Cobb it will remind you of Surf Club since Cobb designed both courses. Oak is very wide open for the driver BUT, it get's tight due to all the dog legs which can be driven through. Fairways were good, roughs a little thin, greens OK not great, but I expect that they will be good in a week or two. Make no mistake, Oak is no Surf Club when it comes to conditioning and facilities, however, it's well worth playing - an hour drive from Long Bay. It's a very fair course that while it's not extremely difficult, it can be very challenging. I'll play there again - and try and play at least 27.

Thanks for your take on Oak Island, it is a course that does not get much coverage on our Forum.

Not sure it really counts as Myrtle Beach - it's about 20 minutes or more past Carolina National. It's like going to Bald Head Island but no ferry ride (and not as high end)  I will play it again.

If you go to OI make sure to stop at Provision Company in Southport for a great meal!

OI is a course I would play more often if it wasn't such a haul to get to.

I agree UGP. It is a bit far away from Myrtle.
