Hello all

I’m relocating my second home from Tucson AZ to Myrtle Beach SC. I’m looking for suggestions on what courses to play regularly and how to save money. I’m 63 yrs old and play twice a week. I don’t know if courses there offer senior rates or if it’s better to join one of the discount programs like GolfPass, Golf Trail or Prime Times.

All advice is welcome.

Thanks!

Don

The Myrtle Beach Passport is the best option; essentially every course in the area is on it and you can make tee times 72 hours in advance.

@uncgolf thanks for the info. Do you find it hard to get morning tee times with the 72 hour maximum window?

I will start off booking as a single until/unless I get connected with other players.

Thanks

Don

I live in Brunswick county and I think the best card is the Myrtle Beach Trail Card. The rates are very good and you can book tee times 7 days in advance. It allows up to 3 guests to play for a small extra fee of around $10. Check out their website.

@2freds I'm usually only there some of the summer, but generally haven't had any issues getting a morning time somewhere. And that was mostly with a 48 hour window; they only changed it to 72 a year or two ago.

Passport also allows bringing 3 guests, typically for $5 more. It's probably harder in the fall and spring in the busiest seasons, but I think the course selection (almost every course in the MB area is on the Passport; most, if not all, of the other options have a more limited selection) means you should still be able to find somewhere every day.

@uncgolf thanks so much for the info. I will pick between GolfPass and the Golf Trail programs I guess.

@2freds There's also the MyGolf card, but it's like the Golf Trail in that it only has 20-25 courses on it instead of 70+.

Read the rules for each card: Golf Trail, Passport, Prime Times.
I don't live in MB, so I can't answer specific.   I have seen locals say if you
like variety, you may want more than one.   Legends also has a card, but
they only have 5 courses, although it included the range use.

Some say Trail is best if living on the North end.  Primes times is good if you
are near their courses.

Spring + Fall is the peak visitor season, so harder to get tee times are
popular courses.    There are various groups who play every Monday
or Wed, etc.  They book the group, so you just join when you want.

As I said earlier, I live in Brunswick county so the Trail Card works the best for me. The biggest advantage with the Trail Card is that you can make tee times 7 days in advance.  That is a huge benefit.

@pirateart does the Trail card have any restrictions on when you can play, like not before a certain time of day or only weekdays, etc. ?

thanks

Nope, there are no restrictions. Their website will give you all of the info you need. The website also gives the rate for each course. Making tee times online is also very easy.

Do you know what area you’re going to be moving to?
The trail card is geared towards the northern courses 16 of the current 23 courses are on the north end. 13 of the 16 courses are in North Carolina. Hope that helps.

@metric it’s in the Carolina Forest area. Conway technically I believe.

Carolina Forest is central Myrtle.  There are a bunch of Prime Times
courses there and Legends.

I see posts that it only takes a few rounds to pay for a card, so
many have more than one.

If you only stay in MB in the winter, some of the cards have a
Snow Bird version for Jan-March.
