What's your take on putting with the pin in - I have left it in for long putts (not that I have many!) to speed up play. I will also tap in very short putts such as when cleaning up a chip or pitch - or a pimped hybrid (thank you JW for that description). Haven't left the pin in when it's over a foot or so - need to try that soon. Of course, many on this forum live in the cold climes and haven't had the opportunity to try the new rules.

We are getting our first real snow of the winter today. I managed to play twice right after the first of the year. I will probably leave the pin in on long putts because my home course has very large greens. The pin will provide a better view of the hole.

My feeling is the Purest type golfer will not be comfortable with the pin in, for me and the guys I play with not a big deal. Only problem I can see if the putt that gets away from you and the pin does not stop it ? ?
And yet the science guy on the PGA tour says leave the pin in - it's a personal choice - will take some serious practice with the pin in to convince me

Dave Pelz, the short game guru... has done extensive testing.
He says leave it in.
Some courses,though, have crappy sticks that lean.
And if it's leaning towards you, the ball ain't gonna go down.

The tests sound good, but they are based on hitting the center of the hole on every putt.
Most putts missed from outside about 5-10 feet don't hit the hole, so the pin has no effect
on those misses and from make-able range, we usually have good enough speed not to need
the pin. How many times do you race a putt too hard over the center of the hole in a year?
I'll bet very few.
My thought is that pin in putting results will be insignificant.
It is nice being able to leave the pin in on long putts that can get away or being able to
putt without waiting for pin removal.

They tested center and off center hits on the pins. I kind of like it.
I'm wondering of it will help with aim on longer putts .
Sometimes it's hard to see the hole from 30+feet if it's unattended.
To speed up play ,most people just agree to pull the pin so no one has to tend it.

However, the objective was not to help golfers score lower and it might just do that.

Tried "pin in" today. I like it on longer putts but it drives me nuts on short puts. So I will still be pulling the pin on most holes.
Can't wait to try pin in...but it will have to wait until this blizzard is over..
then the snow will have to melt...then the course will have to dry....
I figure about three months should do it.

JW11 we have been able to play nearly everyday. We had several days of CPO and it was preety cold for about a week high 40's low 50's buit that north wind was cold. Most of the guys in our group have cart covers with a few have heaters. I just cowboy up and play.
