I was just wondering if forum members can remember the first course they ever played while visiting Myrtle Beach??
For myself.... it was Oyster Bay in the fall of 1995!! I fell in love with Myrtle Beach and have been taking fall golf trips with my buddies ever since!! It will be interesting to see some of the answers and if these courses are still open.
New Year’s Day 1986 played Quail Creek. Played with my dad him and my mom were visiting us for Christmas. It was 66 degrees just a beautiful day.
Like Denis, mine was BLACKMOOR in the mid-90's.
LONG BAY was 2nd.
HEATHLAND 3rd.

My first trip to MB was in 1974. If I remember correctly the first course we played was Possum Trot. Also played Gator Hole, Robbers Roost, and Oyster Bay on that trip.
I was just looking through some of these posts and now i am starting to wish i played a few of these now closed golf courses.... Gator Hole {1999}, Robbers Roost {2005}, Waterway Hills {2015}. After a few years of doing Myrtle Beach trips... we as a group decided if we were going to come all the way from Canada we wanted to play the best courses available to us.
Now i look back and think i wished i had played these courses...they were all considered for previous golf trips...but in the end got cut from previous trips. I remember we almost booked Waterway Hills just because we wanted to ride the gondola!! 🙂
So when you are planning your future trips... don't let it stop you from booking a course because maybe you don't think it will live up to lofty expectations, too costly to play, the congestion of driving on 501. If you wait too long...it might not be around for you to enjoy in the future!!
March Harbor was special - Gator Hole was a very fun course. Played Waterway once, don't remember it well.

Me and my dad at mytlrewood palmetto. Around 1977. There was a sign on course saying dont repair divots...you didn't come here to replace divots. Never forgot that. I think of my dad every time I drive by there
Mine was Azalea Sands back in 80-81. College student then and it was the year after Hugo hit.
1992, Myrtlewood Pinehills, but that first trip was very hazy ? ?
Are we including Cane Patch? If so then that was it for me. Played it with my father when I was a teenager. On family vacation.
Kio57 - Cane patch certainly qualifies as a golf course. It's got tees and greens and some fairways.

Cane Patch...in my 31 years coming to MB, I have never played Cane Patch. Only hit balls at the range there once because I don't like hitting balls of mats (my wrist and elbows hate me for hitting off mats).
Come to think of it...Tupelo Bay...I have never played that one either. Maybe I need to get these off my list of unplayed courses.
I did play the one that used to be up in NMB next to where you turn to go to Barefoot. Don't remember the name of it now. Played it probably 20 years ago.
Camy, bunch of years ago, I would come to MB and play whatever courses I had drawn for the World Am before the tournament began. After coming so many years and playing the same courses over and over, I decided I would try to play every course in MB. The only courses I have left unplayed are those that I need help getting on to...well except for those Par 3 courses I mentioned above.
It is a serious objective Rick...are you near of your objective now?

All of the courses at St James except Founder which I played first year it was open.
I always come to MB before the World Am with a couple other folks. If I were to get onto any of these, I would want them to be able to play also. I belong to a private club myself but the other 2 do not. So, reciprocal privileges tend to be an issue because of that.
