The Dunes Club is trying a new method of overseeding.
1) They are not scalping the fairways before the overseed. That way there will be a good cushion so the fairways will be playable through the Fall & Winter.
2) Instead of using Rye grass they are using a Fescue blend instead. The Fescue will die out quicker and won't compete with the Bermuda as much, so the late spring transition will be shorter and the Bermuda will grow in thicker sooner.
Curious to hear how this pans out.
Keep us posted....I know it's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.
Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle.
That overseeding method sounds like a good idea.
Over the years, I have seen some courses dropping seed, without scalping.
One I can remember is MBN.

BF Dye behind my house just scalped their fairways to the bone and put down the overseed. Was out hitting a few shots yesterday evening and went into the first cut of rough otherwise the fairways it was like hitting off bare dirt.
If this new mthod pans out Bob, it maybe the start of something good for the courses here in MB and area.
Interesting stuff. Thanks for the information.
I would have guessed Fescue Grass could take the spring heat better than Rye.
